The Value of REALTORS - PR is one of SCCAOR's primary goals but not the only one. The Santa Clara County Association of REALTORS® (SCCAOR) has, for 2007 set as their primary goal, the implementation of a strong PR campaign aimed at raising the public's awareness of the value of using a REALTOR®. To this end, the first of two documentaries, “The value of REALTOR®s”, can be seen on KRON Channel 4's “Best of the Bay” show the first Sunday of every month between 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm. To view this documentary visit http://www.bestofthebaytv.com/real1
The need for teaching the public what a REALTOR® does has become more and more important given the advent of multiple real estate websites on the Internet. SCCAOR's Public Relations campaign will augment programs being initiated by CAR and NAR. SCCAOR is proud of the services it's members offer and will continue to showcase their value in the sale or purchase of real estate in the Bay Area. It's going to be an exciting year. “Watch for more to come” said Janet R Houde, Director, Public Relations, SCCAOR, 2004 President SCCAOR and Chair, SAHARAA Advisory Board.

Words Speak - Slurs of an 'ethnic' kind. How ‘ethnic' changed from meaning ‘heathen' to ‘racial, cultural or national minority group' is the subject of an interesting article by Anand.
“The use of ethnic in the sense of "peculiar to a race or nation" began to take shape around 1851. It now pertains to or is characteristic of a people, esp. a group sharing a common and distinctive culture, religion, language, or the like. Its use for "different cultural groups" was in 1935; and for "racial, cultural or national minority group" in American English in 1945. Ethnicity is from 1953. In his statement "Influenced by ethnic and cultural ties", J.F. Kennedy used it to mean denoting or deriving from or distinctive of the ways of living built up by a group of people. Ethnic cleansing is from 1991, as a result of the war in Serbia.”

Housing, as we all know, is cyclical. After a four-year housing boom, we are now experiencing a return to normal conditions. It's been great everywhere, but it's really been extraordinary in California. Despite a drop in sales at the last quarter of 2006 in the state of California, the housing market, particularly in much of the Bay Area is doing just fine. According to the California Association of Realtors® (C.A.R.), over the past 30 years, California homeowners who sell after five years have realized an 11 percent annualized return on the value of their homes, but for the last three years it has been between 17 and 23 percent, says Janet Case, Executive Officer for the San Mateo County Association of Realtors® (SAMCAR) and Silicon Valley Association of Realtors® (SILVAR).
